The Frederick Douglass 10 mile race retraces Frederick Douglass’ ten mile walk from the Freeland farm, which is next to St. Michaels, to the Talbot County Jail where he was incarcerated after he tried to escape from his master in 1836.
His confinement led to opportunities that eventually enabled him escape slavery and to live as free man. His later accomplishments helped to free the slaves.
Wheelchair Athletes, walkers and runners follow in the footsteps of this freedom fighter, both commemorating his fight for human dignity and hopefully inspiring us to continue working to improve humanity.
Funds raised from the race will be donated to the Talbot County YMCA.
